Overview

This is the #1 one knife you need for all of your kitchen tasks that don’t involve heavy meal prep. Making a salad? This small petty knife is absolutely perfect for those avocados, tomatoes, and cucumbers. It’s long enough for small tasks on a cutting board, and versatile enough for hand-work often associated with a paring knife. It really is the “do it all” knife. Oh, and did we mention, it’s also incredibly useful as a table knife? We may have to call it the Useful Petty!

Care Fundamentals
  1. Hand wash & dry right after use—never use the dishwasher.
  2. Avoid bones, frozen food, and ceramic plates—they can chip your blade.
  3. Cut on end-grain wooden or plastic cutting boards only.
  4. Use the knife’s spine for food collection, not the knife’s edge.
  5. Use food-grade mineral oil on the handle & blade regularly.
  6. Hone daily with ceramic honing rods—avoid steel rods.
  7. Sharpen on whetstones or a belt grinder regularly.
  8. Store on a magnet or in a leather sheath—no knife blocks.
Our Promises

Each tool we craft comes with our 10,000 Cuts Guarantee. Simply, use your knife like you normally would for 10,000 cuts or 100 days, and if it’s not the best performing and most comfortable tool you’ve ever owned, send it back for a 100% refund.

Our proprietary grinding and sharpening processes get your knife cutting like an ultra-thin and "fast" Japanese custom, while approaching German boat anchor toughness and chip resistance. Thinner. Tougher. Sharper for longer. That's Artisan Revere Sharp™.

We meticulously soften the handles, spines, and choils on each knife so you become one with your knife. That's Revere's Comfort Promise™. Designed to be the most comfortable knife, ever. Crafted for discerning hands. Your hands.

Small Petty Knife Specifications

Weight:75g +/- 3g.

PRECISE DISTAL TAPER

Knives are precision ground thinner towards the tip to ensure precise tip work while maintaining a strong point.

SAFETY-FIRST "NO-CUT" HEEL

Our forward recurve choil guarantees you'll never cut yourself on a blade heel again. Fly through fruits, veg, & proteins with confidence.

FLAWLESS CUTS: SUPERIOR MANEUVERABILITY

Our small petty knife is incredibly versatile, and particularly useful with small & medium sized ingredients. Useful on a cutting board, in hand, or with a steak; this small knife is the one you’ll reach for when you want something more nimble than a large blade.

FOREVER-SHARP NO-SHRED EDGE

Artisan Revere Sharp™ non-serrated edges provide 100% sushi-grade cuts. 0% shredding. P.S. Our unique design nearly eliminates plate contact, so 96-99% your knife won't ever dull.

KNOW YOUR STEEL

Elmax® powder steel costs 30x more than typical German knife steel. Shouldn't you know exactly what goes into it?

ROUNDED AND SOFTENED CHOIL

Our unique blade profile, including the 1.25" tall heel, leads to just 1-4% edge-to plate contact for a knife that never dulls. Did we mention that the choil is softened to maximize your comfort?

ROUNDED AND SOFTENED SPINE

We can't stand rough edges and think you shouldn't have to either. Enjoy a buttery soft spine along with that buttery soft steak.

"LIKE A GLOVE" FIT

Your hand shouldn't feel cramped on your knife. Thats why we made ours with a slightly longer neck, so your hand can breathe and relax.

HANDLES MADE FOR COMFORT

Our handles were designed to be smooth, non-slip, and, oh-so buttery soft. That "extension of my hand" feeling you've been looking for is finally here.

Your Questions, Answered

How Should I Hold My Knife?

The most standard grip for in-hand peeling work with a petty knife is to wrap your index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers around the handle with your dominant hand. Your thumb should be on the item you are peeling. For on-board cutting, you should use either a point grip (index finger on spine), or a pinch grip, with your index finger and your thumb on the sides of the blade just in front of the handle. In all cases, your support hand should be holding the food item, either in-hand, or on the cutting board.

How Often Should I Sharpen My Knife?

It’s best to sharpen your knife before it goes dull. Petty knives do not typically process foods in a way that dulls the knife quickly. We do not suggest honing the knife. Instead, we recommend sharpening on whetstones or a quality electric sharpener at the same time as your more heavily used knives, like your chef’s knife.

What Are The Best Whetstones To Use?

There is no “best”, but the easiest to use are Shapton Glass Stones because they are the best metal eaters. They’re also splash-and-go, so you won’t need to soak them. The second best option is DMT Diamond Stones. You can also use standard whetstones, but it will take a bit longer to re-sharpen. If you take this route, you’ll want a 220 grit stone to quickly remove metal. It is also useful to do a final burr removal via a leather strop.

How Do I Sharpen My Knife?

Whetstones are a great option. We recommend Murray Carter’s Blade Sharpening Fundamentals, available on Youtube. In terms of electrical sharpeners, we like the WorkSharp Elite Knife Sharpening Solution as it’s not as aggressive a metal eater as the Chef’s Choice Trizor. We would recommend avoiding all non-electric hand-held pull-through systems as they will ruin your edge.

Can You Sharpen My Knife For Me?

Of course! Simply mail your knife to our shop in Idaho. You can ship it back to us with a return label (we can help with this). Shipping with a USPS Priority envelope or a small shipping box are both great options. For $20, we will completely refresh your blade for you. The Artisan Revere Knife Spa treatment includes: a handle refresh, an edge refresh, and a sheath (if applicable) refresh. You will get your knife back in 100% like-new condition. Important: Please make sure you are shipping your knife SAFELY. It should either be in its original sheath or in a slip cover that will not fall off. Never ship an unsheathed knife.

My Knife Is Developing A Patina. What Should I Do?

Firstly, it's totally okay to have a bit of patina - it will not affect your knife or the taste of your food. While minor patina on our knives is rare, it can develop if you don’t wash and dry your knife soon after processing food. Citrus, such as lemons, limes, and oranges, are particularly harsh on steels. Our favorite product for patina removal is called Shadazzle. Buy it for $10 on Amazon. Note: Elmax is stainless, but there are different degrees of corrosion resistance. Cheaper knives have much less carbon, and often their free chromium to carbon ratio is higher, making them even more resistant to corrosion than Elmax.

When Will My Knife Ship?

Knife orders typically ship by 3pm ET one business day after you place your order. During holiday periods, this can sometimes extend out an extra day or two.

Do You Ship Overseas?

Yes. However, every country is different in how it collects VAT/duties. Because we ship internationally via UPS and DHL, we are unable to charge you for VAT in advance. If you place an order for an overseas shipment, we will contact you with an estimate for VAT and will do a separate transaction for that amount.

Impressive to say the least

I recently got the small petty knife, and I must say, its quality and performance have no comparison. I've never felt a knife cut vegetables so smoothly and easily, and it fits my hand like a glove.

I was initially hesitant to spend so much money on a knife, but after using the small petty knife for a few weeks, I can confidently say that it was worth the investment. This knife has exceeded my expectations in every way and has made my kitchen tasks much easier and enjoyable.

I'm loving this petty knife. It's very sharp and just the right size, I'm less interested in my larger kitchen knife now that I've got this. I think the size is ideal for a lot of prep work, definitely bigger than my paring knife but more nimble than my bigger blades. The handle is very comfortable, and I love the soft choil. I don't understand why this choil is not more common. The tip is unique and I'm finding it very practical. One final detail regarding size is that it's small enough that I can sheath it and then hide it in the back of the drawer so that my family can't find it and ruin it.

Loving this Petty Knife

Artisan Revere knives are an investment, but they are so worth it. The Small Petty Knife is probably my favorite of the sizes. I actually laughed out loud when I made my first cut with the Petty. I cut into a lemon, but it felt like a stick of butter. This is just a really versatile size. I have a bad habit of cutting small, soft things (berries, slices of semi-soft cheese) against my thumb instead of on a board, and this works great for that. It's also great for coring tomatoes and slicing shareable foods (spring rolls, bao buns) into pieces. Great purchase.

Small petty knife

This is a right sized knife for a small household where the classic chef’s knife is oversized.

This knife is fantastic! It's perfect for situations where the paring knife was a little too short, and the chef's knife would be overkill. Like my other Artisan Revere knives it feels good in the hand and cuts beautifully.
